get-channel-history: Fetch recent messages from a Slack channel. Returns message text, author (user ID), timestamp (ts), reactions, and thread info (reply_count, thread_ts) for each message. Messages are returned newest-first. The bot must be a member of the channel. WHEN TO USE: User asks "what are the recent messages in #channel?", "show me the last 10 messages in engineering", "what was discussed in #general today?", "read Slack channel", or any request to view channel messages. STEP-BY-STEP to read a channel: (1) list-channels to find the channel ID, (2) get-channel-history with that channel ID. STEP-BY-STEP to read a thread: (1) get-channel-history to find a message with reply_count > 0, (2) get-thread-replies with that message's ts as thread_ts. STEP-BY-STEP to identify who wrote a message: Each message has a "user" field (e.g., U01ABC123). Use get-user-info to resolve the user ID to a name. EXAMPLES: Last 5 messages: channel_id="C01ABC123", limit=5. Messages from today: channel_id="C01ABC123", oldest="1707955200.000000" (Unix timestamp for start of day). CRITICAL: The "ts" field on each message is both a timestamp AND a unique message ID. You need this value to reply to a thread (post-message with thread_ts), add a reaction (add-reaction), or read thread replies.

post-message: Send a message to a Slack channel. The bot must be a member of the channel (or use chat:write.public scope for public channels). Supports threading by providing a thread_ts to reply within an existing thread. Message text supports Slack markdown: *bold*, _italic_, ~strikethrough~, `code`, ```code block```, <url|link text>.

get-thread-replies: Get all replies in a message thread. Returns the parent message followed by all reply messages in chronological order. Each reply includes text, author (user ID), timestamp, and reactions. WHEN TO USE: User asks "show me the thread replies", "what did people say in that thread?", "read the replies to that message", "expand that thread", or any request about threaded conversations. HOW TO GET thread_ts: Use get-channel-history first. Messages with reply_count > 0 have threads. Use that message's "ts" value as the thread_ts parameter here. STEP-BY-STEP: (1) get-channel-history to find messages, (2) look for messages with reply_count > 0, (3) get-thread-replies with channel_id and thread_ts = that message's ts value. EXAMPLE: channel_id="C01ABC123", thread_ts="1707955200.123456". CRITICAL: The first message in the response is always the PARENT message. All subsequent messages are replies. CRITICAL: thread_ts must be the ts of the PARENT message, not a reply. Using a reply's ts will return an error or empty results.

list-channels: List channels in the Slack workspace. Returns channel names, IDs, topics, purposes, and member counts. The bot must be installed in the workspace. Filter by channel type and optionally exclude archived channels. Channel IDs (e.g., C01ABC123) are needed for ALL other channel tools (get-channel-history, post-message, etc.). WHEN TO USE: User asks "show me Slack channels", "what channels are there?", "find the #general channel", "list private channels", or any time you need a channel ID for another tool. STEP-BY-STEP: To read messages from a channel: (1) list-channels to find channel ID, (2) get-channel-history with that ID. EXAMPLES: All public channels: types="public_channel". Only DMs: types="im". All types excluding archived: exclude_archived=true. CRITICAL: This tool returns channel IDs (like C01ABC123). You MUST use list-channels first before calling get-channel-history, post-message, or any channel-based tool if you do not already have the channel ID.

get-user-info: Get detailed information about a specific Slack user by their ID. Returns real name, display name, email, timezone, admin/owner status, profile image, and account status (active or deactivated). WHEN TO USE: User asks "who is this user?", "what is U01ABC123's name?", "who sent that message?", "is this person an admin?", or when you need to resolve a user ID from get-channel-history to a real name. HOW TO GET THE USER ID: User IDs start with "U" or "W" (e.g., U01ABC123). Get them from list-users, or from the "user" field in messages returned by get-channel-history. EXAMPLE: user_id="U01ABC123". NOTE: For full profile with status, title, phone, and custom fields, use get-user-profile instead.
